Terms of use

The agreement between you and us when you use this website, the sample quest, Archie, the teacher portal or the family view. Written to be read, because terms nobody can read protect nobody.

Buzzing Bees Playland, LLC · 203 West 111th Street #5B, New York, NY 10026 · hello@bbplayland.com · Effective 19 October 2026

In plain language

  • By using bbplayland.com or Archie you agree to these terms. They are short, and they are the same for everyone.
  • Archie is free for families during early access; family sign-up is opening, and the early-access list is how to be first in.
  • A parent or a school consents before a child ever opens Archie; a child never creates an account alone.
  • What a child makes is theirs. We claim no rights in it and never use it to train anything.

01

Who we are, and what you are agreeing to

Buzzing Bees Playland, LLC, a New York company that trades as bbplayland, makes and runs bbplayland.com, the Archie app, the AI Literacy course, the teacher portal and the family view (together, the service). By using any of them you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If a child uses Archie, the child privacy notice applies to them, and the adult who opened Archie for them agrees to these terms on their behalf. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

02

Who may use the service

Adults — parents, guardians and teachers — may use the website, sign in, and open Archie for a child. A child uses Archie only with a card given to them by a teacher or a parent, after that adult’s consent has been recorded, and never creates an account alone. A teacher uses the portal under their school’s agreement with us. You agree to give us accurate information when you sign in or write to us, and not to open Archie for a child you are not responsible for.

03

What the service is, and what it is not

Archie is a practice coach for reading, math and science in grades 3 to 8. It uses passages and questions set out like New York’s state tests, asks a question back instead of handing over the answer, and shows a parent or teacher how a child is getting on. The AI Literacy is a six-lesson course a child takes with Archie and a teacher.

Archie supports a child’s teachers and family; it does not replace them, and it does not promise a score on any test. The teacher’s plan a Success Passport describes is the teacher’s, read and certified by them before a family sees it. Where the service says what it does not do — hold a child’s name, state a correct answer, show advertising — it is describing how it is built, and those statements are kept true by tests that run before every release.

04

Using it well

You agree not to share a child’s card with anyone it was not given to, not to try to reach another family’s or school’s information, not to probe or overload the service, not to copy the service or its artwork for another product, and not to use it for anything unlawful. If a card is lost or shared, tell us and we will replace it; the old card stops working at once. We may suspend access that breaks these terms, and we will say why.

05

What we promise about a child’s information

Each of the following is enforced by code with a test behind it, not by this page.

No child’s name, identifier or contact details reach an AI model provider. Scrubbing happens on our own infrastructure, before anything leaves it, and a request is refused rather than sent on if that scrubbing fails. What goes as it is — a grade, a skill score, the categories a teacher’s plan is built from — is listed in the child privacy notice.

There is nowhere to store a child’s name. The relevant database table has no such column, and a change that added one fails a test that blocks the release.

One school or family cannot read another’s data. Isolation is enforced by the database rather than by application code, and the application connects as a role that cannot bypass it.

Archie does not state the correct answer. Every reply is compared against the recorded answer before it is shown.

No third-party script runs on any page a child can reach. Checked against the built site before it can be published.

Some of Archie’s hints are written for the moment by a language model inside our closed system, with every hint checked before a child sees it. The model provider, Anthropic, receives those requests as our service provider, in the state the child privacy notice describes, and may use them only to return the hint. It deletes what we send and what it returns within 30 days under its published policy for business customers, and can keep anything its safety systems flag for up to two years. We have not confirmed a zero-retention agreement with it, so this page does not claim one; what it does claim is that nothing sent names a child, and that nothing a child does is used to train any model.

06

What is yours, and what is ours

Work a child produces using the service belongs to that child. We claim no licence to it and we never use it to train anything. A teacher’s plans and notes belong to the teacher and their school.

Archie, his worlds, the artwork, the sounds, the course and the software are ours, and the passages and questions drawn from New York State’s released tests are the state’s public material, used as the state published it. You may use the service as these terms allow; you may not copy, sell or build on our material without our written agreement.

07

Price

Archie is free for families during early access, with no card to enter and no clock running. If that ever changes, the change is published on the pricing page first, with notice before anyone pays anything. A school or district agrees its pilot and its price with us directly, in writing, before any child signs in; nothing on this site is an offer to a school.

08

Availability, and the limits of our responsibility

We work to keep the service available and correct, we test every change before it ships, and we tell you when something has gone wrong. We cannot promise it will never be interrupted or never contain a mistake, and the service is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law does not let us exclude. To the fullest extent the law allows, our liability to you for anything arising from the service is limited to what you have paid us for it, which during early access is nothing. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot be limited by law, or a right a consumer has under the laws of New York.

09

Ending, changing, and the law this is written under

You can stop using the service at any time, and ask us to delete what we hold as the privacy policy and the child privacy notice describe. We may change these terms; when we do, the new version is published here with its date, and material changes are announced to the people they affect before they take effect. These terms are effective from 19 October 2026, and the current version is always at bbplayland.com/terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and the United States, and any dispute about them is heard in the state or federal courts of New York. If you have a problem, write to hello@bbplayland.com first; we would much rather fix it than argue about it.
